WORKFORCE SOLUTIONS

The Work Experience (WEX) Program is designed for businesses willing to mentor entry-level
employees between the ages of 18 and 24 that qualify for our Young Adult
Program. These young adults have had little to no previous work experience and
are looking to develop good working habits and attitudes while increasing their
self-confidence in a career pathway. This program covers 100% of Young Adults’
wages, for up to 320 hours or 8 weeks.

Federal Work Opportunity Tax Credit

The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) promotes the hiring of individuals who qualify as
members of target groups who have faced barriers to employment. It provides a
federal tax credit incentive of up to $9,000 for employers who hire them. Per
the IRS, “On or before the day that an offer of employment is made, the
employer and the job applicant must complete Form 8850 (Pre-Screening Notice
and Certification Request for the Work Opportunity Credit). The employer has 28
calendar days from the new employee’s start date to submit Form 8850 to the
designated local agency located in the state in which the business is located
(where the employee works).” The California Employment Development Department
(EDD) is the WOTC certifying agency for our local employers.. Learn more at https://www.dol.gov/agencies/eta/wotc.

Employee Training

Before You Hire: Consider On-the-Job Training (OJT)

If you’re ready to hire for a permanent, full time position making at least $17 per hour, consider On-the-Job Training (OJT). Learning on the job is a highly effective way to enter a career, and is a win-win for the business and the job seeker.

With an OJT, we recruit candidates who are a good fit and you select and hire your new employee. You agree to strengthen their skills on the job, and we agree to reimburse you 50% of their wages during the training period which can last from several weeks to several months.

As an added bonus, we develop a clear training plan based on your job description which you can use again and again. And you have coaching staff to support any issues that may arise along the way.
